This article is about Airocide air purifier Review.
Sometimes countering preconceived ideas, our indoor environment is often more polluted than outside. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the products we use on a daily basis … a gusto of very insidious particles that do not mix well if the rooms are not ventilated daily.
The current health context also reminds us that these enclosed spaces promote contamination in the absence of good ventilation.
This is why air purifiers are now installed more and more in public places, but also in private homes. If they are generally austere in appearance, the Airocide purifier is a real UFO in the field, with its design worthy of a work of art. But this purifier is also different from the products already seen, by its mode of operation.
Before discovering the product itself, a little history. Because that of Airocide is not trivial at all.
Clean Air
If there is one place where the air needs to be pure, it is on the International Space Station, a totally confined place, where it is of course impossible to open the window to ventilate. Many issues must be taken into account, such as the fact that to feed astronauts on long-term space missions, it was necessary to grow fresh fruits and vegetables on board the ship. But fresh cut produce emits a harmful VOC called ethylene.
There are a total of 5 types of harmful elements in the air, which need to be purified:
- Mold spores, which trigger allergy symptoms and can lead to more extreme health problems.
- Viruses, which make you sick. They are responsible for many well-known disorders like the common cold. They are spread every time a person coughs or sneezes.
- Bacteria, which cause both disease and spoilage. They are too small to be seen with the naked eye and take over just about any interior space.
- VOCs, harmful gases that are emitted from objects in your home. They can come from paint, fabrics, cleaning solutions, and other common sources. VOCs have been linked to many serious health problems. They also cause odor problems.
- PM 2.5, which have made a lot of talk lately. They are often associated with forest fires and car exhaust fumes. PM 2.5 is a mixture of very small particles of dust and noxious gases. Inhalation of PM 2.5 has been linked to a number of serious medical problems.
This is why NASA developed a revolutionary purification system for the ISS many years ago, which has since been used in hospitals, food packaging factories, government offices and now in your home!
THE POWER OF THE ULTRAVIOLET
Originally developed by NASA to preserve perishables and the health of astronauts during space travel, the technology
Airocide® is also proving effective on our dear planet.
Airocide has in fact obtained a license from NASA for this air purification technology: thanks to tiny glass rings covered with titanium dioxide, it destroys microorganisms too small to be filtered and eliminates allergens in the air. air, 99.99% of airborne viruses, bacteria as well as mold. The Airocide purifier is therefore one of the most effective on the planet, effective even against Covid-19.
FDA Class II medical device certified, Airocide is recommended by the FDA (the American Food and Drug Administration) as part of the fight against Covid-19.
PURITY AND ELEGANCE
Two models that are both stylish and discreet: The APS-300 and the APS-200 PM 2.5 which are fitted with a HEPA filter to filter out fine PM2.5 particles.
Similar to an audio speaker, these purifiers are easy to install and will blend in with any type of interior thanks to this combination of hot and cold with anodized aluminum and wood.No adjustment will be necessary, no filter will have to be replaced, it will suffice to change the lamps of the device once a year.
Airocide air purifier Review
APS200 PM 2.5
We could think of a designer speaker to place under the TV, but no: we have an air purifier here!
It will not go unnoticed in an interior, that’s clear! But unlike other devices of its kind, which look like square and austere mobile air conditioners, this Airocide APS200 will proudly cut, like a work of art: D Moreover, it can be placed both horizontally and vertically.
At the back, notches are provided for optional accessories, allowing the Airocide APS200 to be fixed to the wall or to be mounted on a stand, to make it a unique piece of its kind.
A little glimpse of what it looks like:
As long as we are at the back, moreover, we can notice the power button which is found here all alone:
The Airocide APS200 measures 48.50cm x 18.5cm wide, by 15.7cm deep, for a weight of approximately 4kg. A format that is both compact for a device of this type, but which will still require a little space.
The design is as clean as possible, with just three touch-sensitive controls on the right interior: these controls will activate silent, maximum mode, or the mode that we will use most often, automatic mode.
The metal grid that goes all around is cut with precision, and is the most beautiful effect!
But it is under this grid that the technology used is hidden. This magnetically held grid is very easy to remove.
We then discover a double cassette system, very easy to remove:
It is in these cassettes that are the famous glass rings covered with titanium dioxide mentioned above.
The Airocide APS200 does not use filters to purify the air, as is generally found on this type of device, nor any chemical product. Instead it uses a dual photo-catalytic converter. These converters work by using the fan to attract airborne organic pathogens (allergens, mold spores, VOCs, etc.), slow them down, and disperse them into a set of glass tubes, also known as a catalytic surface. From there, these substances are broken down at the molecular level and the catalyst is able to remove their carbon atoms from them, destroying them.
This process is known as oxidation (aka redox), which in particular does not create ozone as a by-product, unlike the UV lamp that we had seen for example.
This is exactly the same process used by NASA to purify the air of VOCs aboard the International Space Station.
These cassettes are the secret to the effectiveness of Airocide APS200, and they will need to be replaced approximately every year.
Use of the Airocide APS200 purifier
Although it uses technology from NASA, it will not be necessary to have an engineering degree to use this Airocide APS200 air purifier. The use comes down to three small buttons: low fan, high fan and automatic mode.
All you have to do is connect it to an electrical outlet, activate it using the button provided on the back, and choose its operating mode:
- Low: This mode should be used when a lower noise level is preferred. For example, in a bedroom while sleeping.
- High: This is the most efficient mode for Airocide, and is the recommended speed for best results.
- Auto: In automatic mode, the Airocide adjusts its speed according to the amount of light it is able to detect. When the light goes out (e.g. at night), the system goes into low setting. In other words, the device will go into low power mode while you sleep, making less noise.
It does not have a device to measure the presence of these harmful elements in the air, and the Airocide APS200 does not have a display to indicate the quality of the air.
In order to test the Airocide air purifier, I placed the device in a medium-sized bedroom at home (approximately 11m2). From there I took the first measurement of the air quality in this room, then I ran the Airocide for 8 hours. New measurement then to compare the difference in air quality.
During this 8 hour test, the Airocide did an excellent job of reducing particles and improving the air quality in the room.
Anyway, this technology seems really effective. Given all the certifications it has received, including FDA Class II medical device certification, it is difficult to doubt:
Noise side, at maximum air flow, the Airocide creates 49dB of noise. At low air flow, the sound level drops to 43 dB. Practical, this reduced mode will be automatically activated when it is dark in the room, thanks to the integrated light sensor. Thus, when we lie down, the noise level is reduced. Finally, if it is reduced, I will not go so far as to put it on my bedside table …
It will be according to the tolerance of each one, but for my part I am used to sleeping in a perfectly silent room, and this slight buzzing bothers me.
During the day, it will work regularly at full speed, so we will constantly have this buzzing. It is not a mechanical noise, because the Airocide APS200 does not have a motor. But the ventilation is heard. Afterwards, if you are used to having, for example, an air conditioning system running in your home, you will not hear it. If on the contrary your interior is silent, this air purifier will be heard.
Conclusion
The Airocide APS200 air purifier is an advanced air purifier that attracts harmful particles, gases and other irritants from the air and destroys them at the molecular level. Airocide laboratory tests have shown excellent performance.
Such technology made available to the general public is a small feat! However, this air purifier is extremely easy to use, since it suffices to plug it in and turn it on. It will then do its job automatically. There will only be cassettes to replace once a year or so (count $ 166).
Priced at $ 1,049.00, the Airocide APS-200 PM 2.5 is admittedly an expensive device, but it cleans in a way that very few other purifiers can! We just regret the absence of a display, or of a link with a mobile application for example, in order to monitor the air quality at home, because at this level we navigate blind, and we can only do confidence in the operation of the purifier.
APS-300
A real filterless air purifier is the Airocide APS-300. It utilizes our NASA-developed PCO catalyst to clear your home’s air from viruses, VOCs, bacteria, and mold.
