Title: An Amazing Historical Novel
Review: Jane Healey, the Author of âGood Night From Paris,” has written a riveting and captivating novel. The Genres for this book are Historical Fiction, Fiction, Womenâs Fiction, and World War Two. The author did base her novel on some of the characters. The timeline for this story is set during World War Two, mostly in France. The author describes her dramatic characters as complex and complicated. Some are courageous, defiant, and loyal. There are betrayals, threats, adventure, danger, and death. The Nazi occupation in France has proven very dangerous to many people. An American film star residing in Paris, Druy Leyton is married to Frenchman Jacques Tartiere. While Jacques is away, Druy takes a dangerous job as a radio broadcaster in France, hoping to make America aware of what is occurring in France. This does make Drue a target for the Germans. Drue and her co-patriots are fighting with the resistance to keep France free. They need America’s help.Drue faces dangerous obstacles and personal losses. The author vividly describes the events and characters. This would make an incredible screenplay. I am a fan of Jane Healeyâs novels and have read each one. âGood Night From Parisâ is another example of the authorâs talent in writing and storytelling. I would highly recommend this amazing and memorable book.

Title: American In Paris
Review: Being a reader of WWII fiction, this story was light weight but good. The story is interesting and I looked forward to reading it, but never really felt emotionally involved. The bookâs characters seemed to have more luck, more food, and better places to stay than most.

Title: A touching, different view of WWII than Iâve seen.
Review: Loved this story of WWII, of an American film star living in Paris as the tensions increase and finally war breaks out in France and other nations. This begins as a heroic tale of the French-American radio station that brought real-life happenings in France as the Germans invade, urging the US to join the fight for France and the UK, but develops into so much more. The characters, many of them real people, are so well developed, and the stories of (slightly factionalized) real life events are so moving. The book was a page turner for sure, as well as an eye-opener for things I didnât quite realize took place during the war that Iâve read so much about. Highly recommend!

Title: Must read for HF fans!
Review: I have loved Jane Healey ever since I read The Beantown Girls and once again she completely blew me away with Goodnight From Paris. This historical fiction novel is based on the life of Drue Leyton, and I honestly hadn’t even heard of her prior to reading this. Healey includes some crazy information about her that really surprised me although I shouldn’t put anything past the Nazis. I loved her courage and determination, and while this isn’t your normal WWII-type story, it is equally as enlightening, and I was really fascinated by everything she ended up doing. There are some tough moments and a couple that I totally saw coming, and I was shocked I didn’t end up crying profusely.Goodnight From Paris is a fairly long book at almost 400 pages but not for one second did it feel long. There is so much information packed in here along with the fictional pieces and I really appreciated the author’s note at the end as well. I always say historical fiction HAS to include one just so the readers know what’s real and what’s not, and Healey always hits the mark. I would also recommend checking out the audiobook which can currently be found on Kindle Unlimited. Kristina Klebe was an excellent choice to narrate this book and I loved every minute of it. I do have to say that I thought her voice for Nadine was a little funny, but if anything, it just provided me with some amusement in the seriousness of the topics touched on. If you are a fan of historical fiction especially related to WWII, I definitely think this needs to be on your TBR.

Title: Bad title for a very good story.
Review: The setting for this novel moves as the chapters follow one another, Paris being only incidental to the tale. And what a tale! This is one of those novels that will make you lose track of time. The characters are believable and dialogues sound normal to my ears – not an easy accomplishment. Numerous surprises pop up to alter the narrative, which adds to the satisfaction of this read. Don’t pass it by.

Title: Not quite believable in several ways
Review: This story sounded like it would be very interesting, and it was in part, but it seemed too sugar coated. A lot was not believable concerning how everyone acted and spoke. I’m sure that many of those things happened, but not in such a lovely way. There was not much tension in this horribly dire and dangerous time. It seemed too lighthearted and cheerful. The narrator was very good at speaking French, but some of the accents of the characters were bothersome, especially Nadine. Her high pitched voice made her seem so childlike and immature. The narrator’s ability with languages was evident, but she mispronounced several English words! Some of the narration was so distracting from the story, that I wondered if it would have been better to have read it instead of listening, but I am not about to devote any more time to it. Some of the dialogue seemed inappropriate for the situation. I didn’t feel like I really got to know the characters very well. I almost quit it several times, but decided to stick it out and see if it got any better.

Review: A story set at the early part of WW2 and well written. about an American lady who had acted in Charlie Chan movies in Hollywood, before moving to Paris and marrying a Frenchman. She was engaged to regularly transmit news bulletins to America on the war in Europe and the occupation of Paris by the German Army, had a death sentence placed on her for this work, yet continued to inform the USA that Europe desperately needed their help to win the war against the Nazis. Now, purchase the book and read the full story and what happens!

Review: Despite being written in American English I loved this book (Americans cannot distinguish between bringing and taking!). The elements of fact and fiction intertwined perfectly to make a very readable book with interesting well drawn characters reacting to dramatic “out of comfort zone” circumstances. Will read more by this author.

Review: If like me you have never heard of Drue Leyton you need to read this book. What a woman! How many of us could be so incredibly fearless and brave? She literally stares down the Gestapo. Despite considerable personal loss she helps dozens of servicemen escape Occupied France. The story centres on a few years from just prior to the Occupation until the Liberation of France. A lot is packed into those short years. A lot of interesting characters, tense situations and incredible information. Several things struck me, not the least being the risks people such as Drue were prepared to take, and the lengths they would go to to outwit the occupying force. There are some truly hair-raising stories. The way the author uses the known facts and written words of Drue Leyton and weaves them into a riveting story is excellent.. Her characters are often based on real people and she really brings them alive. Her dialogue skills are exemplary too.I tried to learn more about what happened to Drue after the war but I drew a blank..no pun intended..How can someone so heroic just disappear for the remaining 53 years of her life?I fully commend this book. A book I enjoyed very much. And how grateful are we for all the female writers who are unearthing these amazing stories of women in war.
