Blix Sol Eclipse review
The Blix Sol Eclipse, like most other electric bikes, comes in a huge cardboard box that allows it to arrive 95 percent complete. We put the bike together and on the charger in a matter of minutes, ready for our first trip. Blix believes that putting it all together will take around an hour, which seems reasonable. In comparison to the many e-bikes we’ve built over the years, the Sol Eclipse was one of the most straightforward.
The bike’s 750-watt rear hub engine was capable of putting down a lot of power, while the 27.5′′ x 2.4′′ tires and cushy saddle combine to give it a cloud-like ride.
It was time to go out now that the Blix Sol Eclipse had been assembled and charged. When we were blasting downhill, the mechanical brakes with their 160mm rotors were stretched to their limits to slow us down, but they still managed to hold us in check. That’s an incredible performance, especially considering my weight of 205 pounds and the bike’s speed of 30 miles per hour down a steep slope.
The Sol Eclipse is a bike with a low profile. It may appear to be a simple beach bike, but after just one ride, it becomes evident that it is significantly more competent. The downhill ride also demonstrated how adaptable the Sol Eclipse is in a variety of riding situations. Its 27.5′′ x 2.4′′ CST tires proved to be quite comfortable. The greater size results in a somewhat rougher ride than standard beach cruisers with 26′′ tires, but it also has other advantages.
When approaching obstacles, the bigger diameter corresponds to a shorter angle of attack, while the enlarged 2.4′′ tires provide a pleasant ride. On paved terrain, their crossing tread was silky smooth, and on the trail, they proved to be unexpectedly competent. Although the Blix Sol Eclipse is clearly not designed for mountain trails, it was willing to get its hands dirty with some modest trail maintenance.
The unique cruiser saddle on top was ideal for both easy rides around town and longer excursions that needed a lot of pedaling, such as our 20-mile test route.
The Sol Eclipse does not come with fenders out of the box, therefore customers who ride in areas where water still falls from the sky may wish to add these to their order. Blix’s extra fenders for the Sol Eclipse are stylish and give a splash of color to the bike.
Aside from the fenders, Blix provides a variety of front and rear racks, baskets, panniers, and other accessories for the Sol Eclipse that include the Blix design. Its extras are worth checking out, since they add to the base bike’s extensibility, allowing users to transport groceries, pets, or significant others on their next commute.
